That walk doesn't look very masterful, does it, haha! The walk, in style photos, has been one of the hardest things for me to figure out. It is also one of the hardest poses for me to direct as well. What makes it difficult is that most people aren't thinking about what their bodies are doing when they are walking. Everyone's walk is also very specific.
My everyday regular walk isn't very lady like, so in photos, it's not very attractive, haha! For a long time I have been wanting to take some walking specific style photos. I often see them and I'm always inspired by them, so during out shoot in Burbank, I asked Tyler to take some photos of me walking. There are a few things that I've learned that I feel like really make a difference.
STAND UP STRAIGHT
Standing up straight isn't something that we often think about, but it will make all the difference in photos like these. Keep in mind standing up straight looks the best when your shoulders are back as well.
KEEP YOUR CHIN DOWN
Something that many of us do in photos is look up. We lift our chins, I do it too. But another great tip is to keep your chin down. Don't look down, simple point your chin down.
CROSS YOUR LEGS
I don't naturally cross my legs when I walk... remember, I'm not very lady like, haha! Something that made a huge difference was crossing my legs while I walk. Don't go too crazy, but simply cross your legs and twist your hips a little.
LIFT YOUR FEET
Another thing that we don't always think about is what our feet are doing. Sometimes we talk small steps or barley left our feet. But you want to pick those feet up and lengthen your stride. If you have short legs like me, don't discount yourself... I'm only 5'2 haha!
