Tyler and I have lived in the same apartment for a little over two years now. It's a space we grow in and a space that we create in. Days pass, weeks pass, months pass, and as time passes we try different things, see different pieces we like, and slowing our little home develops a style that is all our own. I don't necessarily think our apartment is small, it's not huge by any means, but I think it's a great size for just the two of us.
Our dinning room area which is really just an area between our kitchen and living room has taken us a really long to style in a way that we like and that is functional. We started out with a regular dinning room table and 4 chairs. It totally worked great, but it left the space feeling a little cramped. So, last summer I asked Tyler if he would build a standing dinning room table (I have a thing for standing tables.) The first piece to our small space was complete.
So we had our table, but no stools. We went without stools for over a year. This super great table that Tyler built was serving as a catch all. We talked about stools all the time, we looked at stools all the time and we even knew which stools we wanted. And then the time came, we were finally going to get some stools. Table and stools, check.
The stools were on their way. Hurray! And then I got to thinking, this small space of ours needs something to bring it together. That's when we decided to create a new gallery wall above our table. One Saturday afternoon with two cans of spray paint and we were set.
Designing small spaces can be a little tricky and style develops over time. This space is now one of our favorite spaces in our apartment. We love sitting and having dinner together, Tyler will sit and work at his laptop there, and it's a great place to come together and spend time together. Do you have any small spaces that could use a design face lift?
