QUICK & EASY HOMEMADE BISCUITS

QUICK & EASY HOMEMADE BISCUITS

I forgot something about myself... I'm a maker. I like to make things. It was easy to forget that all through last year. Six months of living in corporate housing, where we only took what we needed. Then, transitioning into tiny living, where we downsized a ton. I still have a lot of my creative tools, like my sewing machine and my craft supplies, but it's all tucked away, neatly stored and sometimes difficult to get to. I forgot how much I missed pulling out my sewing machine and picking out my favorite fabric to make something. I forgot how much I missed pulling out a can of spray paint and creating something for our home. I'm a maker and I forgot that about myself for a while.

This past month, I've been bringing that maker out again. Much of my making has been taking place in the kitchen as it is easy to access and I almost always have the ingredients I need. I've been wanting to do some sewing, but my machine is stored under our bed and when we moved I gave away all my fabric... I'm still trying decide if I regret that decision, ha! Probably not... as I tire of fabric quickly.

Let's get back to what I've been making in the kitchen. :) When Tyler and I were home for Christmas we went to Cracker Barrel. Any Cracker Barrel fans out there? Give me a shout! While we were at Cracker Barrel we had their biscuits. Man, I forgot how much I liked biscuits. Biscuits are so good, right? After my new found appreciation for biscuits, I decided it was time to learn how to make biscuits myself. After lots of searching I found a recipeI was ready to tackle. It was pretty easy and I had all I needed to make it. #winning. :)

I kept to the recipe for the most part, ha! I'm pretty relaxed during my first go at recipes, as I like to get a feel for the processes and how I like it.

QUICK & EASY HOMEMADE BISCUITS {adapted from here }

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 Tbsp sugar
  • 1 Tbsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup butter, cold
  • 3/4 cup milk

METHOD: Preheat oven to 450. In a large bowl mix flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Cut the butter into quarter inch slices, and then again into smaller pea sized pieces. Add to flour mixture and blend. Add the milk and form dough into a ball. Roll dough onto a slightly floured surface. Roll out dough and cut biscuits to desired size. I used a mason jar lid and it worked perfectly. (*I've seen other's fold the dough on top of it's self to make the biscuits more thick and fluffy. I haven't tried that yet, but will next time.) Place biscuits onto baking sheet, I used a silpat mat, and bake 10-12 minutes or until golden brown. Enjoy!

It's been so nice to be making again and hopefully I'll be doing more making in the future. These biscuits were a great start to get me making again and I can't wait to make them again. They are quick, easy, and delicious! What is your favorite biscuit recipe? Are you a maker? What are some of your favorite things to make? xoxo. Samantha
